The following information provided by: Grace Stilley Morgan...........................

Here are the Notes I have for Nicholas de la Fontaine.  You may have found the same thing.  It is neat and interesting isn't it?  Also, the name is sometimes just Fontaine, Fountaine or Fountain.  You notice Grace Fontaine Stilley named one of her sons Fountain. There are some people who dispute the connection, but my records show this as true.

I show they also, had a daughter, Comfort born, Dec. 20, 1663.

Nicholas de la Fontaine Family Outline found on internet.

Nicholas de la Fontaine of Normandie, France, who was part of the protestant reform movement, fled from Catholic persecution with his wife and son Nicholas to London, where they were active members of the French Reformed Church of Threadneedle Street.  While in England Nicholas and his wife had six more children.  Nicholas, Jr. immigrated to America in 1658 and settled near the Manokin River in Somerset Co., MD.  He was granted 300 acres of land on the Manokin River by Lord Baltimore in 1665.  This acreage was named "Fountaine's Lott".  In 1671 he obtained a second parcel for 50 acres which was called "Normandie".  Before his death he added another 600 acres to his holdings.

The book "Old Somerset on the Eastern Shore of Maryland" by ClaytonTorrence
contains the following information.  Adherents to the Church of England- "Churchmen" tried and true came into the Manokin section of this Eastern Shore of Maryland settlement at the very beginning.  When, late in the Fall of 1661 or early Spring of 1662, the Manokin section of this settlement was made, "Churchmen" were first on the ground.  So, no doubt, were the majority at least of the first planters at Manokin.  "In the beginning" among others we find Nicholas Fountain (or Fontaine).  He was settled in Manokin by May, 1662.  pg131, pg 279

Nicholas Fountaine, his wives and children are listed among the First Settlers, on pg 444.
