At time of this writing I am going only on stories I have heard from the family. As time goes by and I have
researched the entries, corrections will be made. If you have authentication of any changes that should be made I will appreciate the information and correction will be made.
Legend states the Silverthorn(e)'s arrived in America with the entry of William, who reputedly ran away from home
and went to sea at the age of fourteen. The story told is he ran away due to the religious prosecution of his protestant
family in England. this was supposed to have been circa: 1600's
What is known is one of the descendant Silverthorn(e)s married a Sarah Vanderbilt of New York, but there is no mention
of whether this is in anyway related to "the Vanderbilts." It is stated that they moved to an area now known as Jersey
City, New Jersey.
It appears that many of the Silverthorn(e) descendants eventually moved to W VA during the 1800's and records show
that many lived around the area of what is now known as new Cumberland and which may have then been called
Fairview or that is what it is now called (family records are conflicting). Both towns are listed as places of death. Perhaps
Pughtown and Cumberland were the principal places of migration/immigration.
There is also mention of two son's who moved to California in the 1800's. Gold rush days??????? But their names were not in the family letters and this has not been investigated.
